I Value My Friendships

Without question, I am a blessed man. I know this because I have my faith, my health, my family and I have an abundance of friends. Now of course we all have friends, however the friends I’m talking about are not the acquaintances we know who we call friends, but the few handful of people we have in our life that no matter what time of day or night it is, they are always there to help you move……….again, and again, lend you money…………again, and again, borrow their car……………again, and again, lend you their ear………….again, and again, a place to stay…………..again, and again, and seem to always support you no matter how nuts your ideas are. Real, true friends. You get the picture.

I have such friends and I value their friendship. They probably haven’t heard it enough but I appreciate, respect and love them very much. If you are wondering as you read this if Tom is talking about me, well, if you’ve supported me with any of the above, it’s safe to say I am. You have created the space for me over the years to be me, at my most vulnerable and challenging times. Whether it was as a basketball coach, a parent, father, husband, businessman or most recently a facilitator and speaker, I always felt I could be me, in your company.

If you don’t know me well, or at all, my hope is that you spend a moment at the end of this blog and ask yourself, “Who can I be a friend to that I create the space for them, to be themselves? Who can I ask, what do you need?” This world is not about us. The richness and joy of life comes from the people we’ve helped and knowing you’ve had a life of significance. Like the old adage says, “If you want a friend, be a friend.”

I got to go now, there’s a few friends I’ve got to reach out to……………..
